Animal-control officers discovered potential neglect and cruel treatment while inspecting Koy’s horses as required by her probation, the sheriff’s office said.
Koy’s probation is related to a 2010 case in which she was arrested and charged with multiple counts of cruel treatment to horses.
This week, Animal Control removed another eight horses from Koy’s home, the release said. The animals will be evaluated, given medical attention and placed with the Hooved Animal Humane Society.
She is charged with four counts of cruel treatment, a Class 4 felony, and was ordered held on a $10,000 bond, according to police. Her next court date is May 15 in Woodstock.
In May 2011, Koy, then a Des Plaines resident, was found guilty of 24 counts of animal cruelty and neglect after her malnourished and injured horses were confiscated in McHenry County.
Evidence presented at trial revealed she owned several horses which suffered from malnutrition and near-starvation, according to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s office.
Five of her horses were taken by Animal Control because of their conditions, and two had to euthanized, according to prosecutors.
