Pit bull shot by Wichita police officer

KANSAS -- A Wichita police officer shot and killed a pit bull that was attacking two insurance adjusters at a house in the 2600 block of North Green, near Hillside and 21st Street, around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Doug Nolte said Wednesday.

The two adjusters were charged at least eight times by the dog, after which they called 911, Nolte said. The dog did not cooperate with the officer’s attempts to corral it, charging the officer at least once. The officer then shot the dog.

Nolte said dog owners should make efforts to contain their dogs appropriately.

“We do want people to restrain the dogs,” Nolte said. “Dogs running loose do pose a threat.”
