Pit bulls shot, killed in Follansbee dog attack

WEST VIRGINIA -- Brooke County authorities are investigating a dog attack that occurred Sunday morning in Follansbee, officials said.

An owner walked a collie-mix dog about 6:30 a.m. when the two pit bulls on the loose attacked the collie on Oak Alley. As the owner attempted to break up the dogs, officials said the owner was bitten.

Wellsburg police responded along with the Brooke County Sheriff's Office and the Brooke County assistant dog warden. Authorities said officers shot and killed the pit bulls.

The collie died from injuries, and all three dogs' bodies were taken to the animal shelter.

Officials said they are unsure if charges may be filed as a result of the attack.
