Shelburne animal cruelty case set to start in June

VERMONT -- A high-profile animal cruelty case is set to start at the end of June.

George Wilson, a former Channel 3 News employee, and his wife Ann Gilbreth, are accused of horrific animal cruelty. Police say the couple kept horses and bulls in their Shelburne barn for years, never letting them outside.

Three horses were found in small, dark stalls, standing in manure and surrounded by the remains of other horses. Their hooves were severely overgrown.

Charges against Gilbreth were dropped. She was found incompetent and will be appointed a legal guardian.

Wilson is serving as his own attorney and says he's ready for trial.

That trial is set to begin June 17.
