TEXAS -- Yesterday, the SPCA of Texas seized two starving dogs from the yard of a home in Pleasant Grove. This is the first case both the SPCA and District Attorney's office have worked on together following a recent partnership agreement.
According the the SPCA's report, "The dogs were being housed in the back yard on the property without access to food or water. Both dogs are thin, and one is so thin its ribs and hip bones are showing through the skin. Both dogs are infested with ticks in their ears, between their toes and on their bodies."
The Senior Investigator for the SPCA first visited the property on April 30th following a complaint they received. Notices were left twice for the owner to call animal cruelty officers to find out how to come into compliance with the laws. Neither notice was answered.
A seizure warrant was then issued.
"We made contact with the owner when we went back," said the Investigator. "The owner agreed that the dogs were in bad shape and they were unable to care for them."
The owner had been treating the flea and tick problem by washing the dogs with dish soap but it was not working.
