VB man in court for animal cruelty

VIRGINIA -- Charges against Virginia Beach man charged after the body of his 15-year-old dog was found in a lake in February will go to the grand jury next week later in the month.

33-year-old Joshua Curry was in court Friday for a preliminary hearing on charges of felony animal cruelty and a misdemeanor charge of failing to sanitarily dispose of a dead animal.


After Hershey’s body was discovered in February, it was transported to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center for  a necropsy. 

The results showed the dog had been choked.  It also showed the Shepherd mix had with a broken left jaw bone and significant bruising around her mid-section caused by the heavy ten-foot industrial chain.

Authorities say the dog had a chain tied around her body when she was recovered from a lake near Curry’s home.
