"Vicious dogs have no place in Chillicothe"

OHIO -- Editor, the Gazette:

What has happened to justice in Chillicothe?

I was the owner of a little dog named "J. Puppy" that was mauled and attacked by a pit bull May 2 on Orange Street. My dog had to be put to sleep. This was not the first time my little dog and I were attacked by this dog.

I want to thank the police department, for they did their job in both incidents. The police officers did their job, but when it was turned over to the court, things fell apart. The defendant got an attorney, who got the case postponed so many times and eventually the judge lessened the charges and the accused walked.

This is what happened the first time my puppy and I were attacked. All the judge heard was one side of the story. I did not get a chance to tell the judge what happened. I was knocked to the ground so hard that I broke my elbow and wrist.

Is this justice? Why wasn’t I allowed to tell the judge what happened to me? When is enough, enough? What’s it going to take to have these dogs removed from the home — will it be a child mauled or killed? Should another animal’s life be taken by these vicious dogs?

I talked to the dog warden and she said they cannot remove the dogs, only a court can do that.

Is justice going to be done? These dogs are vicious and don’t belong in our neighborhood.
