Woman mauled to death by 'vicious' pit bull pack in Southern Calif.

CALIFORNIA -- A 63-year-old woman was reportedly fatally mauled by four pit bulls while out exercising on Thursday morning near her home in the small community of Littlerock in the Antelope Valley desert, Southern California.

A driver reported the attack to 911 just before 9:30 a.m., and by the time a deputy arrived only one "aggressive" dog remained.

The woman died in an ambulance while being rushed to the hospital.

Mid-afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department sent an alert that said: "DANGER: Active search for vicious pit bull dogs."

Detectives and animal control officers later raided a home in the Littlerock area and removed eight pit bulls, although a spokesman said it was not yet known whether those dogs were involved in the attack.
