Woman wants animal control officer fired after family dog shot

GEORGIA -- A Meriwether County woman told Channel 2 Action News an animal control officer shot and killed her dog while it was fenced-in on her own property.

According to a police report, the dog was reported to be rabid and had attacked another dog. The dog's owner showed Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri records showing the dog had been up to date on its vaccinations.

The officer shot the dog with a shotgun despite protests from a neighbor who saw what was going on.
The dog's owner wants the animal control officer terminated.

The police chief told Viteri they are still investigating.
