Dog Rescued from Elk River by Deputy

ALABAMA -- An amazing rescue happened in Limestone County on Thursday. A dog was found tangled in fishing line in the Elk River.

We are happy to report that the puppy is doing just fine.

Limestone County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the dog caught in the brush on the bank of the river.

[The video says that the police were waiting for a rescue boat to arrive to take them to the dog, which was struggling and entangled on fishing line.]

According to witnesses, one of the deputies [couldn't bear to stand around and wait for a boat any longer, took off his duty belt and] jumped into the river to save the little guy.

The Shih Tzu mix was taken to the Limestone County Veterinary Clinic to get checked out.

The clinic said he is in fair health and should be ready for adoption by next week.

They showed the matted fur that had to be shaved off of him -- almost a dog carpet.
