WEST VIRGINIA -- A dozen dogs were surrendered from two Shinnston homes Monday and charges are pending against the elderly woman and her daughter that owned them, Lt. Greg Scolapio, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department humane officer, said.
“I’m going to confer with the Prosecutor’s Office on appropriate criminal charges in the case,” Scolapio said.
Search warrants were executed on two homes, where the canines were found in deplorable conditions, he said.
At the first residence, Scolapio located two extremely thin dogs outside the house. Inside there were six other dogs isolated in different rooms.
Four more dogs, all Shelties, were taken from the other Shinnston home.
Some of the dogs were anti-social and in all likelihood may face destruction due to temperament.
Scolapio is hoping to find homes for the Shelties.
