COLORADO -- A local man is attacked by a dog while mountain biking in the Ridges area, now he's looking to contact the owner, not to press charges, but to get more information about the dog's health.
Stephen Langdon rides on the BLM lands near Mariposa Drive almost daily.
As he was turning a corner on June 4, Langdon says he passed a woman and a small child walking a reddish-brown pit bull.
Langdon says the dog must have been startled. He said it lunged at him and bit him in the calf.
After a trip to the emergency room and having several stitches put in his leg, doctors told Langdon that because they do not know the health status of the dog, he would have to get several rabies shots per day over the course of two weeks.
Now his family is reaching out to the community to find information that may stop Langdon from undergoing this painful procedure.
"If we could find out if the dog is safe, then we could forgo the shots and that's what we're trying to do," said Stephen Langdon, the victim's father.
They say they are not interested in pressing charges because of the attack, but hope that the owners reach out to give them that information.
"I think [the dog] was just trying to protect her and her little girl, but I sure would like to get a hold of the owners if they see this so we could get his registration," said Langdon.
The Langdon family is also offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information.
They are urging those people to call 970-985-0041.
