Gateshead teenager mauled by family pet dog

UNITED KINGDOM -- A teenager was left with shocking injuries when she was mauled by a family pet.

Rebecca Moorhouse was attacked by a relative’s American pit bull dog at the family members’ home in Gateshead last month.

Police were called and the dog,  an American pitbull, was caught and destroyed.

Rebecca, who had been bitten repeatedly, was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle, where she was treated for serious injuries to her head and arm.

The teen is now recovering at home but is still being treated for lacerations and puncture wounds to her head and arm.

And since visiting her in hospital, police decided to treat her to £100 of vouchers from the Northumbria Police Charities Fund.

Gateshead Neighbourhood Inspector Michael Robson said: “We felt Rebecca really deserved a treat after the traumatic injuries she suffered in the dog attack.  She has been very brave as she continues to receive treatment to help her recover from her injuries.

“Officers were struck by her good spirits.”
