Greenbrier Co. man charged with animal cruelty

WEST VIRGINIA -- A Greenbrier County man was arrested Thursday after police found hundreds of animals at his home.

Michael Brown, 37, of Rainelle, is charged with one count of animal cruelty after police say they discovered 160 chickens, 27 rabbits, and 9 dogs on his property.


The one count is in relation to the chickens, which were found in a small coop in the backyard of Brown's home. Several were dead inside the cage.

According to Chief Deputy Bruce Sloan, other charged could be forthcoming.

All of the animals have since been taken to the Greenbrier County Humane Society.

The arrest was made Thursday evening after a joint investigation between Rainelle police, West Virginia State Police, and the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department.
