Monroe Co. officials rescue 29 animals from Tellico Plains home

TENNESSEE -- Detectives rescued 29 animals from a Monroe County home on Friday.

On Thursday, Monroe County deputies and animal control officers responded to the home on 188 Ditmore Hollow Road in Tellico Plains.

They reported severe animal neglect issues and poor living conditions both inside and outside the home.  Animal control officers rescued several animals being kept outside the home that day.

Officials said the animals weren't getting essential care like food and water.

The Monore County Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant for the home and property.  Animal control officers and detectives had to use protective respiratory equipment to take several other animals from the home. They transported the animals to Monroe County Friends of Animals Shelter.

In all, officials rescued 10 dogs, 14 chickens, three ducks and two geese

Authorities said the homeowner had allegedly been out of town for 10 days at the time of the seizure.

Officials said they have not been able to contact them. Charges are pending against the individual.
