Neighbor Helps Save Woman Attacked by Pit Bulls

GEORGIA -- Thursday afternoon, Anthony Bryant woke up to cries for help from his neighbor, 69-year old Margaret McNicholas.

"I turned the corner and I saw that it was her, and my first thought was I've got to get these dogs off of her," Bryant said.

McNicholas was attacked by two pit bulls that got through a pen on the other side of their fence.

The dog's owner, Jack Tripp was on vacation when the two dogs escaped.

The dogs cornered McNicholas and bit her face, neck, legs, wrists, and feet.

They were still attacking her when Bryant fended them off with a broomstick.

"The dogs were so violent," Bryant said. "I don't even think the dogs realized I was coming because they were so focused on her."

Once the dogs left, Bibb County deputies arrived. Deputy Lee Mock wrote in the incident report that when the dogs attack him, he had to shoot them.

McNicholas is in good condition recovering at the hospital from her bite wounds.

The dogs' owner says a neighbor was supposed to check on the dogs while he was gone, and said he didn't consider his dogs dangerous.

The Bibb County Sheriff's office is investigating, and will determine whether any charges will be filed.
