Police dog attacked during Carbon Street incident

NEW YORK -- A Syracuse Police K9 was attacked during an incident on Carbon Street.

According to investigators, officers were looking for a burglary suspect when a pit bull attacked the police dog. At the same time a man approached officers with an assault rifle.

Police were able to get the man to comply with officers but were forced to shoot the pit bull. The pit bull died, while the police K9 suffered minor injuries.

The man was not charged. Two rifles were taken by police, because the owner of the weapons could not be found.
