Seven-year-old boy undergoes surgery after dog bite

ALABAMA -- A 7-year-old boy was recovering this morning from surgery in a Birmingham hospital after a dog bit his face Tuesday evening.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the boy was bitten by his family’s dog and the child was taken to Children’s of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham for reconstructive surgery. The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. at a home on the 1900 block of Lynn Road, according to a police report.

Sparks said the boy is expected to recover from his injuries. He was uncertain what breed of dog the family owned, but described the pet as medium-sized. The family planned to have the animal euthanized, Sparks said.
