Wilkes-Barre Police Investigate Another Dog Attack

PENNSYLVANIA -- Authorities in Luzerne County say they are investigating a second dog attack in the city this month.

Police say a brown and white pit bull running loose in the area of Hutson Street bit a 15-year-old boy in the hip area on Wednesday.

The woman who reported the incident to police Thursday morning said she rushed her son to the hospital.

An animal enforcement officer is working to locate the dog and its owner.

Earlier this month, an officer shot and killed another pit bull following a dog attack in the city.

According to investigators, the pit bull attacked a terrier-poodle mix, and then charged at officers.

At the SPCA of Luzerne County in Plains Township, shelter manager Cindy Starke told Newswatch 16 that most dog attacks are the result of poor ownership and training, not because of the dog's breed.

“Even a very trustworthy dog can be provoked by something that you or I cannot detect,” said Starke. “So, it`s always best and safest to have your dog on lead at all times.”

[Of course, the ASPCA and the HSUS have gone on a campaign to always 'remind' us that 'all dogs can bite' and that we shouldn't fear bully breeds. Same old crap they tell us all the time. I wonder if they get residual checks for each time this quote makes it into the media?]

An animal enforcement officer is still looking for the pit bull that bit the teenager.
