Woman taken to task after daring to say pit bulls are dangerous

UNITED STATES -- Although normally there are enough official news stories out there that I'm busy just trying to post them with photos, somehow I came across this forum chat (a guinea pig website of all places!) in which someone originally posted cutesy photos of a pit bull with the sarcastic comment "dangerous right?" or something to that effect.

One woman had the gall to retort and -whoa- the big guns came out and she appears to first defend herself but then placate the masses who demand that she must be somehow responsible (aka "it's how they're trained!" and "parents that let their little brats pull ears and tails"). I was on her side at first, but she eventually lost me after she began trying to convince them that she's on their side of the issue since she's been attacked by Golden Retrievers and Poodles.

Pit bulls are so vicious.. can't you tell? I hate how people deem them mean and unruly when it's all in how you raise them, just like anything, especially people. What if when you got in an argument with your parents, they took you to the doctor and got you put down? I hate this discrimination, or any discrimination, but they don't even have a voice to fight back. A yorkie can be just as mean as a pit bull if they grow up in horrid conditions with awful people, yet if they both grow up with love and safety, they can both be the sweetest dogs ever. I know @YourSoJelly posted about this too a while ago as well,

If that's they way you see it fine. I'm not against pit bulls or bully breeds, even after my son was mauled. But the mind frame that "my dog is so sweet" is a really bad mind frame to have. I thought our pitbull was sweet. He passed every temperament test we gave him with flying colors. Yet 7:25 AM on October 4, 2011 I got the phone call no parent should ever receive. I do blame myself everyday for believing the dog could do no harm.

ANY dog of any breed can be a killer. As said in the original post, it all depends on how they are raised.

The breed is not at fault here and they should not be the ones that are blamed. The humans that make them that way are.

So, I'm to blame then according to what you said?

I guess that all depends on what you mean. Maybe if you had given an explanation with your question I would be able to answer that better.

And perhaps I should re-phrase what i said:
Yes, any dog of any breed can be a killer. It does depend on how they are raised.
No, the breed itself is not to blame, and in lots of cases with pit bulls they are vicious because their owners have trained them to be that way-- for fighting purposes, a watchdog, etc.

With that being said, any dog of any breed can attack and harm someone even if they weren't trained/raised in a way to do so.

Should one breed specifically be labeled as a killer or dangerous because of how some of them act?
No. And the same goes for any breed of dog out there.

My point wasn't that only pitbulls attack. I've been bitten by a golden retriever, a poodle, and a chihuahua while working in the shelter. I've seen more aggressive black labs than pit bulls.

If that photo was of you, no Aleks did not mean its your fault. It's the owner that makes a dog mean, it's the parents that let their little brats pull ears and tails and not stop them. Its the parent that didn't teach the child better and do not tease a dog. Its the parent that allow a child near a dog eating knowing it has issues with food. Its a parent that didn't stop the baby from pulling its self up on a dog laying down sleeping and the dog wakes up and attacks and kills that poor baby. Unless you were teasing the dog or accidentally hurting it(ie the baby) or attacking its family, no it wasn't your fault.

That's not just a problem with pit bulls, most attacks/bites by dogs are the so called family pet, labs, retrievers, jack russell. Cocker spaniels are well known to bite kids. At one point labs had the most bites because there were so many. I am so sorry your son got bit so bad, I am so glad he lived too but please realize any dog can turn, any dog can kill. They are ruled by instinct, we just need to remember that.

The point of this thread was to say that just because people associate bully breeds with fighting and being vicious killers with no remorse, doesn't mean that they all are. The fact that people assume they are these killing machines that are all the same is what this threads about, not that dogs of any kind can't or won't hurt people, because they do. I'm sorry you had to go through that, and I hope your son is okay. No where did anyone say, though, that all bully breeds are nice, or that they're all bad, because that's not true. I'm sure your dog was nice, but every dog, or animal for that matter, has a different tolerance level, and maybe for some reason your dog felt threatened and like s/he needed to defend itself, however that doesn't dismiss the fact that your dog acted on it and changed your familys' lives.

Posted by aspect, June 28, 2013, 506pmThat was more my point honestly. I have seen way too many posts lately (even had to read an essay for my english class) about how ALL pitbulls are babies, and sweet and everyone who doesn't agree are heartless jerks. THAT mind frame will get people killed, no matter the dog.

TacoBellWinnieP sure is defensive about her original post, insisting that no one ever said "ALL bully breeds are nice" but then what was the point of her post to begin with? Was she not being provocative and defensive of bully breeds by posting the photos and starting a thread with the sarcastic title "definitely a killer, right?"???
