Broward Fire Rescue saves dog trapped under hood of car

FLORIDA -- A dog went for a wild ride Thursday after getting stuck under the hood of a car.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews were able to safely remove the dog from between the steering mechanism and the axle of the PT Cruiser, according to spokesman Mike Jachles.

"They worked like an Indy 500 pit crew," Jachles said. "In less than two minutes they had the wheel up, had some parts apart, and were able to extricate the dog without injury."

He said the dog made must have gotten stuck in the car when it was parked in Hallandale Beach. The young couple that was in the car drove to Dania Beach, where they noticed a noise coming from the hood.

After it was rescued, the dog was given water and taken to a local vet for a check-up. Officials were unsure if the dog was a stray.
