FLORIDA -- The family of Sandra Lambert said the 63-year-old is recovering at USA Medical Center after she was viciously attacked by stray dogs.
Relatives said the injuries were so bad doctors were forced to amputate Lambert’s dominant right arm.
“She’s been pretty good. She’s stable right now,” said Lambert’s sister Debbie Fore. “She has a breathing tube in and she is experiencing a lot of pain but she's at least alive and stable.”
Lambert was LifeFlighted to USA Medical center Thursday July, 18. She was feeding her chickens at her Florida home off Jakes Road in Nokomis.
Relatives say two stray dogs, at least one of which was a pit bull, attacked her. Family members tell FOX10 Lambert had been taking care of the two animals for the last 6 months.
Debbie Fore believes the only reason her sister is alive is because a third dog intervened. Fore says her sister’s family pit bull, which she has owned for years, jumped in and fought the other two animals.
“The dog probably saved her life because that dog got the pit bull dog off of her and on to him,” said Fore. “She was able to get into the house and call 911.”
Relatives said the family dog, ‘Buddy,’ died in the fight before animal control arrived.
Sena Maddison with the Escambia County Sheriffs Office said, "animal control was able to take one of the dogs, the other one escaped. We are still at this time looking for this dog. The community is our eyes and ears. They'll find the dog before anybody.”
The missing dog is described as a black and brown brindle pit bull. If you know the whereabouts of this dog, you are asked to call Animal Control at 850-595-0097 or the Escambia County Sheriff's Office at 850-436-9620.
Meanwhile, Lambert’s relatives said they are just happy that she is alive. Lambert is scheduled for surgery to remove the rest of her right arm, up to her shoulder.
She is also set for another surgery on Sunday.
[I don't know that I'm buying this version of events. I think the dogs got into a fight, she tried to break it up and ended up being attacked.]
