Pennsylvania: Garrett Bumbaugh, 19, faces cruelty charges in shooting of baby duck

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Chambersburg man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly killed his neighbor's pet duck.

Garrett Reed Bumbaugh, 19, of 7214 Smith Road, is scheduled for preliminary hearing on Tuesday in Franklin County Court for charges of cruelty to animals, a second-degree misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct.

On April 11, Natash Leann Clark called Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, at 8:07 a.m. to report that her neighbor, Bumbaugh, had allegedly killed a domestic duck that belonged to her, according to a police affidavit.

Upon arrival, police saw the dead brown and tan bird in a container at Clark's residence. She told police that she had recovered the duck from behind Bumbaugh's residence, police said.

The next day, a witness, Cassidy Jade Randolph, told police that she was at 7226 Smith Road around 8 p.m. April 10 when Bumbaugh allegedly approached her and threw the dead duck in her direction, police said.

She explained that it was dark and she could not see what Bumbaugh had thrown so she asked him what it was and he replied it was a duck that he had shot, police said.

Randolph told police that the duck appeared to still be alive, police said. Bumbaugh then allegedly retrieved the duck and discarded it nearby. She recognized the duck as Clark's and took Clark to where it had been discarded.

The investigation revealed that Bumbaugh allegedly used a BB gun to shoot and kill the duck, police said.

Bumbaugh has no other charges in Pennsylvania, according to court records.
