OHIO -- A 53-year-old Penn Avenue N.W. man was scheduled to appear at a pre-trial Aug. 27 after pleading not guilty Monday to three counts of animal cruelty.
Larry Beckwith remains free on a personal bond set in Warren Municipal Court.
Beckwith spent the weekend in jail after police and a representative from Animal Welfare League found a cat named Troy in an animal carrier partially covered by a tarp in 91-degree temperatures at Beckwith’s home.
A dog named Rascal was chained in the rear of the house and another dog named BJ was chained on the inside of the home.
Neighbors told police BJ has been sick and Beckwith has refused to take the animal to a vet. Rascal was malnourished as was Troy who was found on the front porch.
An Animal Welfare League representative said they tried to have the animals signed over to them about a week ago and Beckwith refused.
