SOUTH DAKOTA -- The owner of a dog that bit a man last week has been located.
A Pierre man was bit by a black Labrador on Friday evening as he walked his dog in the LaBarge Park area.
The dog bit the man in the arm as he tried to prevent the Lab from attacking his dog. The man says he had six stitches for the bite wound and had put out requests since Saturday for the owner of the dog to come forth and provide information on the Lab’s rabies vaccination status to help avoid having to go through unnecessary rabies treatment.
Pierre Police Captain Dave Panzer says the owner of the dog has now been located and has confirmed that the Lab was current on its shots.
Panzer says apparently, the owner of the black Lab was out of town and a family member had been taking care of the dog. When the owner returned to town, they identified themselves to police as the dog’s owner and the incident has been resolved.
