AUSTRALIA -- It was never going to be a fair fight - Tigger, the American pit bull terrier, against Coco, the black Labrador.
And it wasn't, not once Tigger raced into Coco's back yard in Cooma and bit into her neck.
Coco's owners hit Tigger with a piece of wood to try and stop the attack. They even used a steel fire poker to pry open the dog's mouth before they were able to force him into a vehicle, and take him to the ranger.
He was subsequently put down.
Coco, meanwhile, ended up with a vet who was able to patch up the tears in her neck.
As a result, Tigger's owner, Blair Guild Rodger, 42, of Cooma was charged with being the owner of a dangerous dog that attacked another, and the case was heard by Cooma Local Court on July 17.
He pleaded guilty, was fined $1,250 and ordered to pay compensation of $344 for the vet's bill.
The Court was told the owner had not wanted to take responsibility for the attack.
