WISCONSIN -- A Madison parking enforcement officer was attacked by a pit bull on Madison’s east side Tuesday morning, according to a release.
The parking enforcement officer was attacked after he was dispatched to the 10 block of Katherine Court around 11:05 a.m. Tuesday to deal with a vehicle that had blocked some residential mailboxes and parked too close to a fire hydrant, according to the release.
Officials said the pit bull escaped from a nearby residence, began to jump on the officer, and bit the officer in the back at least two times.
The officer used a plastic electronic citation generator to hit the dog to prevent any further attack, according to the release.
A witness told officials the officer was bleeding from his back and needed medical attention.
The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for significant injuries, according to the release.
Officials said the officer has been released from the hospital.
The pit bull was quarantined within the residence and the owner, Meagan L. Kroon, 24, of Madison was cited for permitting an animal to injure a person and not having a dog license.
Officials remind the public to pay close attention to their animals and their ability to move around freely without restraint.
