Pit bull mauls 10-year-old Jackson girl

MISSISSIPPI -- A 10-year-old Jackson girl who was mauled by a pit bull on Monday, according to WJTV.

The victim was released from the University of Mississippi Medical Center on the same day.

Neighbors who witnessed the attack say that the girl's clothes were ripped apart by the dog and her leg had a dinner-plate sized wound.

This is the little girls' INNER THIGH. Can you imagine the pain and
terror with this dog latched on to you this far up on your thigh?

The pit bull, named Deuce is a one-year-old and between 35 and 45 pounds. He is now on a ten day waiting list, quarantined and being tested. It's possible he will be euthanized.

Jackson Animal Rescue official confiscated the animal from the 300 block of River Road North around 3:00 p.m.

The dog's owner, Brinda West, told WJTV News that "when he bit the child's leg I grabbed my pistol and I intended to kill him but I couldn't get a clear shot."

"I fired a warning shot and yelled his name three times. My son was the one who pried open his jaws," West said.

West said this was not a dog she used for protection and it was only a pet.

She also said Deuce has never showed any serious signs of aggression before this attack.
