Poodle's head was in mouth of Staffordshire bull terrier in attack

UNITED KINGDOM -- A Poodle and its owner were attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier as they walked in the park.

The man and his dog were enjoying a stroll in Clock Tower Park, in Abbeymead, on June 16 when the other dog struck.

The Poodle's head was in the Staffie's mouth during the attack.

The man intervened but the Staffie latched on to the man as he pulled him off. He suffered puncture wounds to both hands.

The victim was checked over by a doctor but he also faced a vets bill of £400.

Police traced the owner of the dog – a 24-year-old woman from Abbeymead. They visited her and she told them how she had asked her flatmate to walk the dog for her.

PC Andy Plant said: "One of our officers spoke to the lady who was very apologetic and told us it was her flat mate who had walked her dog and had not followed her warnings to keep him on the lead and away from other dogs.

"She agreed to pay the £70 insurance excess to the owner of the poodle and we decided to put her on an anti-social behaviour contract to ensure this doesn't happen again.

"It means she must keep the dog on a lead and muzzled. If she doesn't, then she could end up on an anti-social behaviour order.

"The poodle's owner was satisfied with this outcome and we believe it is a proportionate solution. We hope members of the community are reassured about this action and feel reassured we will take action wherever possible where dogs are out of control."

It comes just two weeks after another Staffordshire bull terrier attacked a puppy in Tudor Meads field, in Churchdown, leaving it with some minor injuries. The owner has yet to be traced.
