Security cameras catch man throwing dog off second-floor balcony

GEORGIA -- Motel security cameras have allegedly captured the horrifying moment a man grabbed his Yorkshire terrier, slapped it, shoved it in a crate and then threw it over a second-floor balcony.

Marcell Sibley said that he threw the animal from the balcony at the All-Around Suites in Marietta, Georgia 'because he was mad at the dog', local police said.

Grainy footage of the vile incident, which unfolded on June 27, allegedly shows Sibley grabbing the dog by its neck, hitting it, walking into his room and emerging with the small dog in a crate.

Without pausing, he then tosses the crate over the edge of the balcony. Police said he then went down to the pavement, picked up the dog and the crate and discarded them in the dumpster.

A witness called police and they found the dog in the dumpster, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

Cobb Animal Control was called to the scene and took custody of the dog.

The animal suffered broken bones and spinal injuries and authorities said they did not know if it would survive. At the weekend, veterinarians reported the animal was in a stable condition.

After throwing the dog, Sibley fled the motel but police tracked him down to his home in Smyrna, where he said he 'snapped' and admitted that he threw the dog from the balcony, officers said.

He was arrested and faces a felony cruelty to animals charge, which could put him behind bars for up to five years. Sibley later posted bail.

'Children and animals really rely solely on the people that they live with,' Officer David Baldwin with the Marietta Police Department said.

'I think it takes a sick individual to mistreat a little animal. I don't care if it's a dog or cat or whatever,' motel resident Don Dugan told Channel 2. 'I feel it's the same difference as if it would be a little child - it's something that can't help itself.'
