Sentencing Scheduled for Woman Charged with Animal Neglect

MISSOURI -- A Stone County woman charged with 2 counts of violating provisions regarding disposal of dead animals and 3 counts of animal neglect or abandonment entered an Alford plea this week in Stone County Associate Circuit Court and is scheduled for sentencing August 20th.

Fifty-one-year-old Amy Allan was charged last fall after sheriff’s deputies reportedly located 3 horse carcasses near her home in Galena.

Officers also found a dead dog inside her residence, and seized 10 dogs and a cat along with chickens and ducks from the property.

An Alford plea is a guilty plea where the defendant does not admit the act and asserts innocence.

[But it's also a guilty plea that a Defendant cops to when they see the mounds of evidence stacked against them, telling them they probably will NOT win in a jury trial, and decide to cut their losses and take the Alford. It is essentially a GUILTY PLEA b/c otherwise why would an innocent person accept it? Especially when the evidence - THE DEAD ANIMALS - are found on their property?!]
