MISSOURI -- Addrienne Martin, 35, was charged Thursday with felony animal abuse and knowingly burning.
According police, Martin set fire to a dog in the 4300 block of Cole Brilliante Ave. She then posted on Facebook bragging about the cruel act.
The Shepherd-Terrier mix dubbed Brownie was rescued on July 10 after being found tied to a short, heavy chain in a backyard suffering from severe burns to the body.
Authorities said they discovered the dog after the owner called police.
“I’m on killa mode… kill dogs… today,” Martin later posted on her Facebook page. “I mean what I say and I say what I mean… all dogs don’t go to heaven.”
Medical officials say Brownie was set on fire all over the face and body. The dog was unable to escape the flames due to being anchored by the chain. Brownie later died from his injuries.
The founder of Stray Rescue, Randy Grim said “this is one of the most disturbing abuse cases I have ever dealt with. It has stricken our community to the core of our hearts, but I am inspired by how swiftly we have been able to respond to these awful cases. Brownie deserves justice.”
After discovering Brownie, there was a public outcry of support, frustration and rage on Stray Rescue’s social media page. Concerned citizens sympathized with the pain and suffering Brownie endured in his final days, with third degree burns covering his body and face.
She was given a $50,000 cash-only bond.
