NEW YORK -- A West Elmira woman has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty after two dogs were found inside a hot car in the Wegmans parking lot this morning.
Elmira Police say 47 year old Heather Joyce of West Elmira has been charged with animal cruelty.
Animal Control says two Pomeranians were left in a car in the parking lot around 10:00 this morning. Animal Control says temperatures inside the car exceeded 116 degrees.
The dogs were treated at the scene and then taken to a veterinarian for heat stroke.
Joyce is scheduled to be back in court at a later date. WETM 18 News reached out to her tonight, and she told us on the phone that the situation was “a misunderstanding”, but did not want to comment further.
