OHIO -- A 14-year-old boy was attacked by Thor, a family pit bull, Saturday evening on Fountain Avenue in Dayton.
Latoya Ross, 33, was issued a court summons after the incident not controlling her dogs. According to a Dayton police incident report, officers were initially called to Fountain and Linda Vista avenues after hearing of gunshots in the area.
Once police arrived, Ross, the boy’s mother, said her son took the dog outside. This is not uncommon, she said, but on Saturday he fell and the dog attacked him.
The mother said the dog was biting the teenager in the face. He was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
According to the police report, a neighbor told police an unidentified man was at the scene and fired two gunshots into the air. That distracted the dog long enough to pull the boy away. An officer from the animal resource center was called to the scene. Thor was removed from the residence.
Ross’ boyfriend, identified in the report as Tayette Thompkins, shares ownership of the animals at the residence. He was cited for having six unlicensed animals.
He would also be arrested on two active warrants for failure to appear in court, according to jail records.
