United Kingdom: Sixty-six-year old farmer allowed two of his Highland cattle to slowly starve to death

UNITED KINGDOM -- A farmer allowed two of his Highland cattle to starve to death by failing to provide them with adequate nutrition.

Allan Green was banned from keeping livestock for life after he failed to get the animals on his farm veterinary treatment.

The Scottish SPCA said the 66-year-old also pled guilty to failing to dispose of nine carcasses which were left rotting in the fields of Glen Acre Farm in Glenboig, North Lanarkshire.

At Airdrie Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Green admitted allowing a bull and a calf to starve to death.

He was given a life ban on keeping, owning, dealing or working with livestock and was also fined £250.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Gillian Dick said: "This was a case of gross neglect and Green showed little concern or remorse for the animals suffering under his care.

"During questioning Green could not remember the last time he had walked his fields and checked on his livestock and he was unable to confirm whether they had all been fed.

"Such a lack of care and attention is appalling therefore we are pleased he has received a life ban.

"In our opinion Green has demonstrated that he is unfit to be a farmer and it is reassuring to know that he will never be in charge of livestock again."
