Abandoned pit bull dies in animal shelter

FLORIDA -- There are a lot of questions in Hernando County involving a dog that died at the county animal shelter.

It all started with a pit bull that was found alive but unresponsive at a home on Peach Street in Brooksville.

Animal services officer Brenda Rogers removed the dog and took it to the county shelter. But investigators say she never alerted the vet about the dog's condition - which is supposed to be standard procedure in these types of cases.

The pit bull wasn't given any care, and he was found dead the next day.

The sheriff's office is looking into whether to take action against Rogers.
