Child attacked by dog in Jasper

ALABAMA -- Jasper Police say that a young child was attacked by a dog Friday evening.

A neighbor on Preston Avenue says that the child is a little girl around 5 or 6-years-old. The neighbor says she was in her yard when she heard screams.

Leconyea Duncan says she went over and found the child in a ditch, balled up and bleeding.

Another neighbor says that the dog got loose from a chain and attacked the girl. Someone tried to beat the dog off of the child but that didn't work.

That same person then got a gun and fired into the air and that's when the dog stopped and ran away.

The child's condition is unknown but Jasper Police tweeted that she has been airlifted to Children's of Alabama.

Reporter Sherea Harris is following this story to learn more about what happened and where the dog which allegeldy attacked the girl is right now.
