Dogs rescued from Altamonte Springs home available for adoption

FLORIDA -- New pictures were made available Friday from the Altamonte Springs house were more than 100 dogs were found inside.

A day after their rescue from the filthy conditions, 65 of the 117 dogs are available for adoption.

From the outside, it is impossible to tell just how bad conditions were inside the home.

Seminole County Animal Services shared pictures taken from inside the home.

The photos showed floors covered with feces and 58 dogs crammed into one room, while the others were around the house.

"He finally reached the point where he said I can't do this anymore, we don't know what got him started but he did reach out to us," animal services manager Morgan Woodward said, describing homeowner Leo Durphy’s call for help.

Woodward said Durphy fed all of his 117 dogs and for the most part they appeared to be healthy.

The youngest appears to be about a week old.

"A lot of eye issues, a lot of infections, issues with the feet from walking on feces for so long,” Woodward said.

All 117 of the dogs were taken to animal services where it took eight hours to clean them.

They are now in the process of evaluating them before putting them up for adoption, Woodward said.

Neighbors didn’t appear to know about the situation, he added.

"We had residents living on both sides of him, and none of them ever called in a complaint, but when you approach the home the smell alone should've set off some alarms."

Dorphy is not expected to be charged, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Seminole County Animal Services will hold an open house adoption event Saturday, Aug.3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
