Gregory Madr, of Flanders, attacked by dog while retrieving mail

NEW YORK -- A Flanders man recently came face to face with a vicious dog on his front lawn, and is just now disclosing details of the attack.

Gregory Madr says he was walking to get his mail when the dog, which he says had the face of a Rottweiler, lunged in his direction. He adds that he believes the dog may have been trained to fight based on the way in which it attacked.

Madr suffered a vertebrae compression fracture as well as several severe cuts.

However, he says he is not angry with the dog, but instead holds strong feelings toward its owner.

"You shouldn't have a dog like that," says Madr.

The dog is still on the run, and Madr and his wife are offering a reward to anyone who can help find it.
