FLORIDA -- An Immokalee man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after neighbors said they caught 51-year-old Orlando Ocesioneves beating a dog with a stick.
Dionette Molina said she's still shaken up after witnessing what she called a terrifying act of cruelty.
" It was just like seeing him beating up a child, a human being and the dog yelling for help nobody could do anything for that poor animal." Molina said.
Molina said she was relaxing at home Wednesday night when she heard a loud banging outside. She said she looked out the window and said it was her neighbor, deputies identified as Orlando Ocesionieves in a fit of outrage.
" Next thing I know he's beating the dog then he grabs the dog by the skin and bangs the dog against the trailer." Molina said.
Molina said she called 911 and according to a Sheriff's report, deputies found three dogs, now at animal services, all showing signs of neglect and abuse.
" I was traumatized because I heard the dog yelling as he banged the dog against the trailer after he beat it with the stick." Molina said.
When FOX 4 went to Ocesionieves home, a woman who claimed to be his girlfriend said he wouldn't intentionally hurt an animal.
" He didn't hit them he didn't beat them, I don't know what the hell they're saying that he beat animals which he didn't." The woman said.
She said if her boyfriend were to hit the dog, it was to protect his chickens.
" Everybody has chess, everybody has music and chickens were his thing." The woman said.
Neighbors said that's no excuse.
"That was an inappropriate way of teaching the dog "you hurt my chicken so I'm going to beat and kill you now." Molina said.
Ocesionieves is in custody at the Collier County Jail. The dogs are with animal services being nursed back to help. They will eventually be put up for adoption.
