McAlester Man Accused Of Hanging His Family's Dog

OKLAHOMA -- A McAlester man faces a charge of cruelty to animals after being accused of hanging his family's dog.

Court records state McAlester Police were sent to a home on East Washington on July 31 after getting a call about a dog hanging by a leash on a clothes line.

Officers found the dead dog and took a report from Thompson Brown Jr.'s nephew.

Police said Brown told them the dog had bitten him. According to an affidavit, police asked Brown "if he thought hanging the dog was the best option available to him and he said 'I suppose so.'"

Police arrested Thompson Brown Jr. and took him to the Pittsburg County jail.

Police indicate Brown may have a mental health issue.

He is scheduled to be in court on August 9.
