Salvatore Pizzo Jr., 22, also was placed on two years of probation on a charge of keeping a dangerous animal.
His dog, Lucky, injured Paytan Wiersum on July 31, 2012 in the Wiersum family's front yard on Mark Street NE.
Wiersum had injuries to her stomach, chest, shoulder, arm, hand and neck and needed multiple stitches.
Lucky was among two dogs that apparently escaped Pizzo's nearby property. The dog eventually was euthanized.

Pizzo apologized Thursday, Aug. 1 during his sentencing before Kent County Circuit Court Judge Dennis Leiber.
Leiber said Pizzo had a duty to make sure the dog was safe.
"Dogs act by instinct. Dogs are animals and are not capable of rational action as human beings are," he said.
"If a dog bites when he is playing, then a dog is a dangerous animal," he said.
