Pit bull owner says dog biting child was 'self defense'

Spring Valley owner cited for alleged pit bull attack

MINNESOTA -- A Spring Valley dog is on a short leash after allegedly biting a young boy.  The incident happened on July 10, however, the homeowner says the circumstances are a little unclear.

Buddy the pit bull likes to stick his nose into everything and now he's made it into the city books as a potentially dangerous dog.  According to Buddy's owner, Melissa Placek, authorities said Buddy escaped his home and bit a young boy in the neighborhood while his owner Melissa was away.

"Sheriff got a hold of me and said that my dogs had been out and that a boy was claiming that he was bit and that one of the neighbors had called.  Not his actual family," she said.  "I was a bit nervous obviously.  I mean I had no idea what was going on."

[I love how she says it wasn't his 'actual family' who reported the attack on the little boy - as if that negates the truthfulness of it. Yes, there is this big conspiracy theory involving neighbors, the little boy, his parents, the police -- they found your innocent pitties running loose and decided to blame your dog for attacking the little boy.]

Placek owns three pit bulls and all three got out.  So, she received three separate citations with three separate tickets on each dog.  Violations included Dog at large, no proof of vaccination and no registration for the dogs in Spring Valley, a city ordinance.

Placek is not  fighting those citations, admitting she was in the wrong, but does question the charge that buddy bit someone.  "He's wonderful with my kids, he has to sleep with them.  He plays with them.  In the winter time he pulls them on a sled with a harness," said Placek.

And if Buddy was in fact the perpetrator, Placek said it was most likely self defense and not an attack.  "He said the dog bit and then ran.  That causes me to believe that he was trying to protect himself."

So now after getting brought up to date with vaccinations and registration, Buddy is good to go.

Placek stated authorities took a picture of the boys bite but said that doesn't prove Buddy did it. And as to why the dog was still inside when she got home, authorities told her they put buddy back in the house after the incident.

[Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. This woman is delusional! And why doesn't she neuter this damn dog? Clearly she couldn't be bothered with vaccinating them until she was cited for it.]
