NEW YORK -- A New Hartford woman is facing animal cruelty charges after officials say a dog that was in her care was found malnourished and needing medical attention.
New Hartford police were called to the home on Mallory Road on July 30th to assess the situation.
Police along with New Hartford's Animal Control Officer say the dog was underweight, severely dehydrated and emaciated.
The dog's owner, Kerry Meeter, 30, is charged with failing to provide the dog, named Casey, with adequate food and water. That is a misdemeanor charge. Meeter was also charged with failing to license and vaccinate the dog.
Casey is a black lab between the ages of 4 and 6. She was taken to the Waterville Veterinarian Clinic for treatment and then taken to the Stevens Swan Humane Society where she will be cared for until an adoption can take place.
Meeter is free after posting cash bail.
