31 Dogs, 3 Cats Seized from Southbury Home

CONNECTICUT -- Officials have seized 31 dogs and three cats from a home in Southbury.

The owner of the dogs told the Waterbury Republican-American that she was running an animal rescue business out of her Georges Hill Road home and the dogs were neither abused nor neglected.

Animal control told her they were seizing the animals to help her take care of them, she said.

George Krivda, of the State Department of Agriculture, said the dogs would not have been seized if there wasn’t a concern for their well-being.

All the animals are going to a veterinarian, who will determine if there are medical problems.

"I am not a hoarder," Nancy Boeckel told the Rep-Am. "They've been trying to find things against me. The dogs are all vetted. Some of them are sick, but those that are sick are being taken care of and are on medication. My dogs are everything to me."

Krivda said this is a town of Southbury case and state officers were there to assist the local animal control.
