Buck Credit says his son, Trehlan, is expected to recover and is already sitting up and talking. It's a big relief for his father, who was at work when this all went down.
"I was in Heber Springs working when I got the phone call and man we left Heber Springs coming about 120 (miles per hour)," Credit said.
Buck Credit raced to Arkansas Children's Hospital Monday to see his 3-year-old son, the victim of a pit-bill attack.
"Cuts on the back of his head, he had from here to here just gone, completely gone," said Credit, describing his son's head-area injuries.
Credit says that the attack also left Trehlan with half his left ear gone. But a day later at hospital, the report from Dad is better.
"He's doing well man, he's up talking, he knows how old he is, he knows me, he knows his mom, he knows his brother," Credit said.
Credit says the that attack happened Monday while Trehlan was staying at his grandma's house near Mayflower. He says the two were walking next door when the pit bull broke loose from a chain and attacked the boy.
His father says the dog, which was put down by Faulkner County deputies, belonged to the grandma's boyfriend.
"It was a tragic accident, like I said, I don't blame him, I don't blame my mom, it's just something that happened," Credit said.
He's keeping the focus on his son, who is getting a little extra medicine from his dad.
"When I first seen him, he was like, he went from being sad to Oh that's my Daddy and reaching out for me and like Daddy, you know that type of thing, it's good, it's great," Credit said.
Credit says that Trehlan also looks a lot better at this point but he's expected to stay at the hospital for at least four to five days. Dad says multiple surgeries, for areas like his ear, are still on the way.
The story from the Faulkner County Sheriff's is slightly different from the boy's father. Chief Deputy Matt Rice said, initially, the pit bull belonged to the boy's grandfather and the boy was playing outside at the time of the attack.
