2 Hospitalized After Dog Named ‘Cocaine’ Attacks in South L.A.

CALIFORNIA -- Two people were hospitalized with injuries after a dog attack in South Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, witnesses said.

The incident occurred just before 2:45 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Central Avenue (map), according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

A pit bull attacked three people who were transported from the scene in unknown condition, Herrera said. Witnesses said three people were injured but only two hospitalized.

Residents near the home where the dog was picked up by animal control officers said the canine — named Cocaine — had frequently gotten loose.

On Friday, the dog was pulled off one victim after chasing a couple walking down the street. The dog then escaped a fenced yard and again attacked the couple.

“Panic – it sensed that and it attacked him first,” witness Terrence McDonald said of the animal.

Another witness said he attacked the dog with a machete. The dog was then dragged back to the yard, where it was picked up by animal control officers, witnesses said.

Animal control authorities could not immediately be reached for comment.
