CANADA -- An 81 year old man has been charged after a dog was beaten to death with a hammer in this small village north of Gananoque.
Provincial Police were called to a residence in the village on September 28 to investigate complaints of animal cruelty.
When officers arrived they found a dog laying motionless on the ground near a pick-up truck on the property. It had already succumbed to its injuries.
The OPP forensic unit was called in to gather evidence.
Other animals on the property were removed by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Harold Robertson, of Lyndhurst, has been charged with killing or injuring an animal and two counts each of cruelty to an animal and making threats. His next court date is October 30 in Brockville.
