Boy undergoing reconstructive surgery after dog attack on school grounds

FLORIDA -- The father of an Atlanta high school student attacked by dogs on his school campus says his son is undergoing reconstructive surgery to repair gashes to his face.

Azarius Lowe, 16, is in so much pain that he had to be sedated at Grady Memorial Hospital, his father Arthur Steverson told WSB-TV .

“He’s in pain. He’s cut up. He’s bit, he’s bruised,” Steverson said.

The student was bitten by dogs on a campus ball field Monday afternoon at The New Schools at Carver, Atlanta Public Schools officials said.

Fulton County Animal Control officials say two rottweilers attacked the boy. The attack prompted a brief lockdown of the school.

The boy’s parents wonder why the dogs were on the high school campus.

“I expect them to look after my child. I don’t see how there’s pit bulls or any stray people walking on the campus or anything like that,” Steverson said.

Lara Hudson, Executive Director for Fulton County Animal Services, says animal control officers planned to set traps in an attempt to capture the dogs. It was unclear who they belonged to.
