Carlsbad boy, 9, attacked by neighbor's pit bull

CALIFORNIA -- A Carlsbad man whose son was attacked by a neighbor's escaped pit bull says the owner should be held responsible.

Jason Biscaino said that when he saw a neighbor's white pit bull rush after his 9-year-old son who was walking down Greene Street after school, he responded by firing several shots from a pellet gun at the animal.

Raymond Biscaino said he was walking home from Joe Stanley Smith Elementary School, along the same route he always takes, when he saw the dog rush under the fence of backyard and towards him.

"He got me good," said the boy, who was taken to the emergency room by his parents.

Raymond's left hand was treated for a deep puncture wound and the area on his stomach where the dog attempted to bite him is ringed with scratches and deep bruising.

"It felt like he weighed 100 pounds," Raymond Biscaino said.

Another of the Biscaino's neighbors called 911 and animal control seized the pit bull after the animal's owner decided to sign over custody.

"They didn't give him a citation. The damage was done to my son when the dog belonged to him so he should be responsible," Biscaino said.

According to police officials, however, the owner of the dog will receive a vicious animal charge, which could result in fines.

The dog is being held in 10-day quarantine in accordance with state law, which allows time for testing of rabies.

Meanwhile, Jason Biscaino is concerned for other children in the neighborhood who walk along Greene Street, which he says is home to several other pit bulls.

"Kids walk all the time down this street," he said, "it's dangerous."
